In Recognition of Reshoring Success: Two Industry-Leading Companies Revitalizing US Manufacturing
The National Metalworking Reshoring Award honors companies that have contributed to the trend by effectively reshoring products, parts, or tooling made primarily by metal forming, fabricating, casting, or machining, including additive manufacturing. The award is made possible by: the Reshoring Initiative; the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA); AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology; SME; the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA); and the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association (FMA). This year, Marlin Steel and GE Appliances, a Haier company, were honored with the award for their leadership, reshoring, and investment in U.S. manufacturing.
Since 2018, the Reshoring Initiative has proudly celebrated outstanding organizations through these awards. Let’s explore this year’s 2025 National Reshoring Award honorees, each recognized on Sept. 11 at FABTECH 2025. The show welcomed more than 65,000 attendees, making the recognition even more meaningful.
Marlin Steel: Successful Reshoring
Drew Greenblatt, president of Marlin Steel, accepted the award in recognition of leadership in reshoring and domestic manufacturing resilience.
Marlin Steel reshored multiple production lines from diverse industries including medical devices, food processing, and aerospace. The company earned the award by repeatedly demonstrating that automation, engineering, quality, and delivery can enable reshoring, even of high-volume commoditized products.
One example involves a reshoring decision by a U.S.-based buyer that previously sourced from Mexico. That buyer moved production of 1,500 custom wire racks to Marlin’s operations in Indiana, with final powder coat painting completed in Michigan. These racks had historically been sourced in Mexico, but were brought back to the United States to improve turnaround time, simplify logistics, and increase product consistency.
A team of seven degreed engineers in Maryland, Indiana, and Massachusetts played a pivotal role in driving this effort. Their engineering capabilities, paired with modern fabrication and welding technologies, deliver faster prototyping, tighter process control, and improved responsiveness. Marlin Steel expects its reshored revenue to double or even triple in 2026, depending on the volume of upcoming projects.
GE Appliances, a Haier Company: Leadership and US Investment
GE Appliances was honored with the Reshoring Award for leadership and continued investment in U.S. manufacturing. In August, GE Appliances announced an investment of $3 billion over the next five years to expand domestic production across its network of 11 U.S. plants and micro-factories. Since 2016, the company has committed $6.5 billion to American manufacturing, fueling product innovation, plant modernization, and supplier growth.
“This award is proof that when you invest in American workers and factories, you strengthen supply chains and fuel the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing,” said Bill Good, vice president of Supply Chain at GE Appliances. “It’s a testament to our 15,500 employees nationwide who help show the world that American manufacturing has a bold future.”
CEO Kevin Nolan offered this perspective: “We’ve had a strategy that making appliances in America makes sense; it’s an economic thing, and it’s also how we can serve our customers in a better, more efficient way.”
Reshoring is happening
For too long, American manufacturing jobs have been lost to offshoring—6 million over recent decades—resulting in a trade deficit topping $1.2 trillion annually. But the tide is turning. Despite today’s global volatility, reshoring is happening. Back when I started the Reshoring Initiative 15 years ago, nobody believed. I believed. In 2010, 11,000 jobs were coming back, and last year, it was 244,000 jobs—and the trend continues to grow.
The No. 1 reason companies hesitate to bring jobs back is workforce availability and skill level. We advocate for strengthened vocational training, apprenticeships, and new career pathways that connect more closely with today’s manufacturing needs.
Manufacturing careers offer dignity, great benefits, and a path to the middle class.
Are you thinking about reshoring?
Our main mission is to get companies to do the math correctly using our free online Total Cost of Ownership Estimator (TCO: reshorenow.org/tco-estimator). By using TCO, companies can better evaluate sourcing, identify alternatives, and even make a case when selling against offshore competitors.
